Boy, 5, drowns in Mankayan town

A FIVE-year-old boy drowned and died in Mankayan at the height of monsoon rains last week, according to police reports.

The victim, a grade one student and a resident of Busan, Colalo of this town, drowned on July 25.

Police said the child accidentally fell on a concrete canal and was swept away by strong water currents. Witnesses rushed the boy to the Mankayan Rural Health Clinic for Medical treatment but was pronounced dead on arrival by doctor Fabriola Gabriel.


The body of the victim was brought home by the relatives. The Office of Civil Defense has issued advisories of possible landslides and strong monsoon rains and urged resident to be extra careful.

Meanwhile, in an intensified crackdown on illegal drugs and firearms, members of Abra police arrested Richard Baldos Dolor, 34, security guard and a resident of barangay Buli Lapaz, Abra for bearing an unlicensed caliber .45 ARMSCOR with a magazine loaded with five bullets along Capitulacion Street, Zone 1, Bangued, Abra on July 24, while attempting to run away from a checkpoint.

A firearm and several rounds of ammunition were also seized inside the house of Joel Reboldela Blanca, 35, a resident of barangay Dumayco, Peñarubia, Abra by virtue of a search warrant issued by Judge Raphiel F. Alzate of the Regional Trial Court (RTC) Branch 58, in Bucay, Abra.

Seized were a Glock 17, a magazine loaded with 12 live ammunitions and a Ronie carbine kit, however, Blanca was not around when the search was undertaken inside his house.

Bulki Pasandalan Pacalna, 23, a native of Marawi City and a resident of Cipriano Francisco, Rizal Street, Sta. Maria, Alfonso Lista, Ifugao was also arrested by virtue of a search warrant issued by Executive Judge Anastacio Anghad of the RTC 36 Santiago City, Isabela for keeping into custody a prohibited drugs.

The combined elements of the Alfonso Lista Police Station and Santiago Police Office were able to confiscate three heat-sealed plastic sachets containing shabu, two pieces used aluminum foil; and one roll aluminum foil during the implementation of the search warrant.
