LA TRINIDAD, Benguet -- Itogon officials is requesting a P30 million funding for flood control.

In a resolution by the local council, Vice Mayor Adriano Cerantes Jr. with the entire Municipal Council is asking President Benigno Aquino III to fund the flood control to protect Ambalanga River.

"The municipality of Itogon is prone to erosions and landslides every time heavy rains and typhoons hit the municipality especially along the Ambalanga River," Carantes said.

The resolution of Itogon officials was forwarded to the provincial board and was approved during Monday's regular session.

The Flood Control project along the Ambalanga River will improve economic and tourism potentials and will protect the community from landslides during typhoons and heavy rains.

"The Ambalanga River at Barangay Poblacion is fast becoming a site of local economic activities which when protected and improved could possibly turn into a conducive site of local investment which may boost the entrepreneurial spirit among local residents," Cerantes added.

The municipality is asking for the P30 million funding assistance from Aquino through the Budget and Management Secretary Florencio Abad and Internal and Local Government Secretary Manuel Roxas II.

Due to financial constraints, Itogon could not implement the said project.

The resolution said, "The construction of a flood control along the Ambalanga River, Poblacion, Itogon will protect the residents and their livelihood." (Danica S. Guieb/ISU-E Intern)
