LA TRINIDAD, Benguet -- Kabayan peaks will be highlighted this May.

Two mountains within the municipality will be host to adventure treks from May 1 to 3 with climbs to the mystical Mount Pulag and Mount Al-al plus the four inland lakes scheduled for adventure seekers.

Both treks are part of the Bindiyan Festival, culminating on May 3 with a grand cañao at Poblacion proper.

Mayor Faustino Aquisan said visitors will witness Ibaloy and Kalanguya dances during the culmination of the event.

The Bindiyan Festival is a month long activity which features eco tourism activities to compliment the rich culture of the town.

Aquisan said it is the first time they will organize the trek to Mt. Al-al, which is likened to Mount Tabayok, the country’s 5th highest mountain.

Participants joining the Mt. Al-al and Mt. Pulag adventure will converge at the Department of Tourism regional office along Gov. Pack Road just beside the Baguio City National High School before takeoff.

The trek to the four inland lakes will be done on first day while the campsite will be near the Tabeyo Lake.

Day two will be the start of trek to Mt. Al-al where participants will view the Ccordilleras and Caraballo mountain ranges then proceeding back to the Tabeyo Lake campsite.

Participants will then be ferried to Poblacion, Kabayan for the closing program at the Kabayan Central School on the night of May 2.

For participants to Mount Pulag climb, they will have their registration, orientation at the Protected Area Office at Ambangeg, Bokod before they will be brought to the Rangers Station in Bashoy, Kabayan, where they will start their journey to the Ranger Station in Babadak.

Participants are expected to start their trek to Mount Pulag campsite 2 past noon of May 1. If the hikers arrived early, they could watch the sunset from the grassland.

Day two will be the trek to the peak of Mount Pulag at 2,922 meters above sea level. If good weather permits, participants will witness the breathtaking sunrise never seen before especially to first time hikers.

Participants will also be transported back to Poblacion, Kabayan from the Babadak Ranger Station after lunch of May 2.
