THE suspect tagged in the shooting of Pasil, Kalinga Mayor James Edduba surrendered Sunday night.
Kalinga police director Senior Superintendent Victor Wanchakan reported the suspect surrendered to police at around 6:30 p.m. on April 27 after manhunt operation was launched Sunday to track his whereabouts.
Edduba sustained gunshot wounds in the arms and stomach after he was shot for running over a dog allegedly owned by the suspect Kitkiti Suyam in Tabuk City on Saturday.
Wanchakan reported last Sunday morning Pasil town mayor James Edduba was driving his vehicle in Tabuk City when he accidentally hit a dog at the side of the road at Sitio Pinagan in Barangay Lucog.
Police investigation of the Kalinga police revealed the town mayor and his company were on board the Ford pickup truck approaching Tabuk City when they accidentally hit a dog at the side of the road prompting the mayor to go out of his vehicle and check on the injured dog.
However, the suspect Suyam, who was allegedly the dog's owner, fired at the mayor injuring parts of his left arm and stomach.
The mayor was initially rushed to the Tabuk City Provincial Hospital and later transferred to St. Paul Hospital in Tuguegarao, Cagayan for medical treatment.
The town mayor is now in stable condition while an outpouring of messages of prayers for his fast recovery flooded his Facebook account Sunday.
"I am stable now, hopefully no internal injury. With all your prayers, I'm going to make it. Thank you for all your prayers,” the mayor sent in a text message.
A Special Investigation Task Group Edduba headed by Provincial Director Wanchakan was immediately created Sunday to track the whereabouts of the suspect. The suspect was detained at the Tabuk City Jail while court cases are being prepared against him yesterday.
