CORDILLERA police director Chief Superintendent Isagani Nerez assured families of policemen killed in battle in a joint offensive with the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) will be given burial and financial assistance.

Nerez said they covered the burial expenses of PO1 Jefferson Sari from the Regional Public Safety Battalion and PO1 Marcelo Kilasen of Mt. Province Public Safety Company who were killed by members of the New People’s Army during the encounter in Bandong Hill, Bontoc, Mt. Province Saturday.

The police chief also visited and condoled with the families of the casualties whom the regional police director said displayed courageous stand against rebel groups.

Meantime, the police chief also visited Medalya ng Sugatang Magiting awardees PO1 Benido Magan of the Regional Public Safety Battalion at the Benguet General Hospital. The medal recognizes the cop’s gallantry and courageous stand against the rebel group.

Another injured policeman from the Mt. Province Police Public Safety Company, PO1 Romeo Fakat Jr., will also be given the same Medalya ng Sugatang Magiting. The policeman was just discharged from the Bontoc General Hospital Monday.

The police regional director stressed they will continue their counter insurgency drive as government troops believe the number of New People’s Army cadres have decreased significantly in the past years.
