LA TRINIDAD, Benguet -- Kabayan dancers are eyeing to hit the grand slam this year.
Provincial Tourism Officer Claire Prudencio said full support has been extended for the award winning dancers from the highland town.
A performance from the Kabayan Youth Cultural Dance Troupe of Kamora National High School is slated to be shown during the grand street dancing parade this weekend, aiming to bag the top prize as well as their third win in a row.
The Kabayan dancers are defending their title as champions of the Baguio Flower Festival (BFF) street dancing parade.
Prudencio said the province has given the 150 member group accommodations, travel expenses as well as food for the duration of their stay here during the highlight of the Baguio Flower festival celebrations.
Last year, Kabayan Youth Cultural Dance performed "Adivay" revolving around a local folktale about Gadate, who helped save the Kintoman harvest and its people in Kabayan from a giant snake.
The performance was a continuation of their performance from 2012 which also was the runaway winner.
The successive wins have helped promote traditional dance as well as highland culture with invitations to perform all over the region.
Last year the Kabayan dancers bagged 4th runner up in the street dancing category in the Aliwan awards besting 17 groups from all over the country making history in the annual showdown and got an extra bonus for being cited as “Best in Folklore Presentation.”
The annual Aliwan Fiesta gathers top performers from all over the country for an exhibition and awards top winners a hefty P1 million.
