LA TRINIDAD, Benguet -- Governor Nestor Fongwan lauded police and anti-narcotic agents' all-out war against illegal drugs.

Fongwan said the series of eradications as well as arrests of drug personalities in the province is needed to rid the highlands of illegal substances.

Fongwan said illegal drugs may be the root of crimes committed in the province especially those against women and children.

Fongwan is focused on new concerns of the province on environmental degradation, drug abuse and social concerns on child violence saying these are emerging concerns the province has to address.

Newly installed Cordillera police chief Isagani Nerez is continuing an all-out war against illegal drugs saying, “We have to intensify our unrelenting and uncompromising operations against illegal drugs because we need to spare the youth from being influenced by the use of such drugs which could ruin their bright future.”

Over the holidays six plantation sites in Kibungan town were destroyed worth millions.

Fonwgan said despite the efforts of the police and PDEA, farmers just keep on planting illegal drugs but added efforts to thwart these will not go in vain. “If [the police] are consistent about it, they will hopefully stop.”

The Cordillera has been identified as one of the major sources of high grade marijuana being circulated in the country and also being shipped out to some parts of Southeast Asia.
