ALFONSO LISTA, Ifugao -- Two projects of the Girl Scout of the Philippines (GSP) located here and the municipality of Aguinaldo were declared third place winner and finalist, respectively, in the nationwide search for the 8th Pilar Hidalgo Lim (PHL) Troop Achievement Award.
According to Ifugao GSP council executive Felisa Gumangan, the Junior Troop 166 Blaze of Glory greening and beautification project in this town, was next to Batangas and Bohol, the overall winners of the PHL award.
For this feat, Troop 166 consisting of 12 members received P20,000 as prize.
“The greening and beautification project of the troop along the road in San Juan has included vegetable gardening,” Gumangan said.
Meanwhile, the beautification project, eco-park and picnic grove of GSP Senior Troop 112 Sunflower of Aguinaldo town was declared as one of the four national finalists that included Davao, Maguindanao and Sultan Kudarat. These finalists received P10,000 cash prize each.
The council executive explained the PHL troop achievement award scheme was conceptualized in the year 2000 to encourage Girl Scout troops to exemplify the GSP promise and law by becoming pro-active in the community development.
"This is to recognize the important role of the troops in their respective communities and to memorialize the significant role of Mrs. Pilar Hidalgo Lim in the formal organization of the GSP," she added.
To qualify for the award, the troop should identify a depressed community and meet the leaders to discuss the possible project which can be carried out between the troop and the community members. (Marcelo L. Lihgawon)
