THE regional tourism office said a new emerging form of tourism has now reached Benguet.

Department of Tourism Regional Director Purification Molintas said eco-tourism, which includes adventure sports, has been drawing tourists in the province.

Molintas said recent activities held in Bokod, Kapangan and Kibungan centered on sports tourism with trekking, mountain biking, running and various altitude sports being offered for tourists to enjoy.

"This is an emerging trend here," she said.

She said hobbyist groups have been conducting events and oculars within the province even without the tourism office’s assistance.

She also said the boom in eco-tourism is mainly attributed to the cool weather in the highlands that is ideal for the adventure sports.

Treks up to the summits of both Mount Pulag and Ugo have increased participants, as well as the Northface 100 which have lured foreign contingents, she said. (Maria Elena Catajan)
