LA TRINIDAD, Benguet -- Senator Loren Legarda envisions a thriving center for culture and arts here.

Legarda said a folk’s arts theater in the Valley is key to the development of arts and culture in a bid to keep tradition alive.

Legarda said the Schools of Living Tradition (SLT) is one of the projects she supports in a bid to keep tradition alive in the country.

There are 13 Schools of Living Tradition in Benguet which is a hub for the products from municipalities; Atok, Bakun, Bokod, Buguias, Itogon, Kabayan, Kapangan, Kibungan, La Trinidad, Mankayan, Sablan, Tuba and Tublay.

Benguet SLTs are venues for Indigenous Peoples of the province to display their crafts as well as promote the province as a cultural and tourist destination.

SLTs should focus on crafts and veer away from food products and performance arts, more arts and crafts which use indigenous materials, Legarda said.

Legarda is head of the Committee on Cultural Communities and is among the leaders in the efforts to revive interest in indigenous art.

Legarda said the La Trinidad Folk Arts center will be a hub for culture here.

Aside from the art center, Legarda is also batting for a making for model organic farms within the municipality to attract healthier living and eating as well as champion the local farmers in the province.

“My dream is to have a parcel of land here to make into a model organic farm,” Legarda said.

Legarda has been urging Congress to enact a comprehensive Organic Agriculture Program for the sustainable development and promotion of organic products all over the country and reiterated the call to the local farmers here.

Legarda has been made an adopted daughter of the La Trinidad as she graced the staging of the 13th annual Strawberry Festival as guest of honor and speaker.
