BANGUED, Abra -- The inauguration and lying of the cornerstone on the residence of the late Don Quintin Paredes in Bangued as a National Historical Site is set on February 23, 2013.

Preparations for this historical event are now being undertaken by the descendants of the late Paredes in partnership with the National Historical Institute (NHI), the Philippine Information Agency (PIA)-Abra Infocen, and the Local Government Unit (LGU) of Bangued after the 15th Congress through Senate Resolution No. 380 adopted on December 12, 2012 declared Paredes Residence in Bangued as a heritage in honor of the late Quintin Babila–Paredes.

The declaration came one year after Senator Loren Legarda had introduced Senate Resolution 136 declaring the birthplace of the late Paredes as a historical site.

The late Paredes was a statesman who served the Filipino nation with distinction and who championed the international cause for civil liberties, foremost of which is the inherent right of every man to freedom, life and the pursuit of happiness.

Atty. Quintin Paredes III, one of the direct descendants of the late Paredes, expressed grateful appreciation to Mayor Ryan S. Luna upon learning his support.

The mayor approved that the lying of the cornerstone by the NHI at the Paredes Residence be the highlight of the Miki Festival of this capital town.

“We must all be proud to have this as a heritage in Bangued because it will put our province in the map because we will be recognized as a source of a Great Man in the history of our country. Moreover, this will be a come-on for our tourism industry.” Luna said during the coordination meeting called by Paredes Clan represented by Socorro Valera-Guzman. (Maritess Beñas)
