DepEd Baguio Family Day

CELEBRATING family day is part of the yearly activities of DepEd Baguio.

December 21, 2012 was a day for teachers, non-teaching staff and DepEd officials to gather for the purpose of unity, to count blessings, express thanksgiving, love and patriotism. One special part of the celebration is the recognition of retirees and service awards for outstanding teachers, school heads and supervisors both in the elementary and high school level of District 1, 2 and 3 from the elementary with Pines City National High School, Irisan National High School, Mil-an National High School, Roxas National High School and Baguio City National High School attending the DepEd Family Day.

“Noble Teachers and Employees, Propelling the Nation to Progress” was the theme of the celebration. City officials, Mayor Mauricio G. Domogan, Congressman Bernardo M. Vergara and Director DepEd CAR Ellen B. Donato gave motivating and encouraging messages. Lucban and Quezon District teachers rendered an entertaining dance intermission numbers.


Atty. Augustin P. Laban, Administrative Officer V, OIC started the program by warmly greeting all the teachers. He called on all teachers to be proud of their profession, encouraged them to continue the good performance, maintain beneficial relationship among their students and co-workers and to strengthen unity and oneness.

Atty. Laban added and reiterated for the DepEd family to get support from the city government for additional school buildings, facilities, books and more teaching job opportunities.

Mayor Mauricio G. Domogan spread the good news allotting the biggest budget for DepEd. The mayor said “emphasize the use of talking to the native language for better communication.”

Previously, our city mayor and Vergara worked for the increase of the salary of teachers and recently requested for new items for casuals and qualified teachers, opening 269 vacancy positions with incentives for 2013.

Mayor Domogan is also positive the amendments to the city charter will soon reach the bicameral conference. At the same time the mayor is dealing with the 45 hectares lot government property in Tuba. The mayors ended his message by asking all teachers to maintain transparency in their working relationship, and continue to be great teachers among their students having, love, forgiveness, devotion, cooperation, respect, giving and sharing towards their working family.

Congressman Bernardo M. Vergara allotted scholarship programs for education available from TESDA from the offices of the mayor and the congressman. He also requested more funds, the amount of P1M to be provided for alternative education system, P225M upgrading Baguio General Hospital, for the purchase of latest medical equipments and machines. The congressman added another P500M for road extensions saying “there is a need for road extension so travel time will be shortened, and accessible.”

He implored for Norhtridge Expressway to sign a resolution for road constructions going to La Union so travel time will only take 3 hours from Manila to Baguio to attract more tourists.

Director DepEd CAR Ellen B. Donato inspired teachers to served with honesty, sincerity and wish for more blessings to come for DepED Baguio Family.

Teachers cheered for a good life, more blessings, increase in salaries and another great year to come.
