TUBA, Benguet -- A mining official here welcomed moves of Japanese companies willing to invest in mining and other industries in the country.

Mike Toledo, Philex Mining Corporation senior vice president for Corporate Affairs, said the coming in of Japanese and other foreign investors is good news, as this means a better economy for the Philippines.

Last month, during President Benigno Aquino III's visit to japan, a lot of Japanese companies showed interest in investing in the country’s industries, such as infrastructure, energy, manufacturing and the mining sectors.

“Isang magandang balita hindi lang sa industriya ng pagmimina pero para sa buong bayan ang planong investment ng foreign and international companies,” said Toledo.

He said the government's move to invite foreign investors is a way to make sure that the country's economy will grow and the lives of people will improve.

Toledo said foreign investors in the Philippines are assured of the best output from the Filipino workers who love their jobs and do their job very well.

He added that foreign investors are not seen as a threat among the local investors.

He said investors in the mining industry are assured with the rich natural resources of the country, as long as they practice responsible mining and sustainable development. (Redjie Melvic Cawis)
