SLOWLY, people are now realizing the existence of a new law on real estate practice, that is, the Real Estate Service Act (Resa) by virtue of Republic Act No. 9646 effected on July 30, 2009. Despite the apprehension that this will suffer the “short-time” life of a mandated law, we can now sigh a relief that indeed the law is finding its way into the consciousness of the public. Personally, the law’s date of implementation holds a close memory as it was also the time when I was invited to be part of the opinion page of the paper as a columnist.

Service facilities for veggie noodle launched

THE DEPARTMENT of Trade and Industry-Cordillera Administrative Region (DTI-CAR) officially launched on July 17 two Shared Service Facilities (SSF) for veggie noodles to benefit 45 member beneficiaries.

DTI-CAR assistant regional director Carmelita Usman said these facilities are expected to increase the veggie noodle production of Mt. Province and deliver 100 percent mark-up in the current annual sales of Small and Medium Enterprise (SME) from P100,000 to P200,000 by the end of its first year of operation.

TABUK CITY, Kalinga -- Local entrepreneurs generated a sales of P1.3 million during the recent Patawid Agri-Industry Trade fair of the 6th City Founding Anniversary and 12th Matagoan Festival here.

Philex advances P1.034 billion payment to government

WHILE it believes that the August 1 incident at its Padcal mines was caused by force majeure, Philex Mining Corp., is set to pay on Monday, or one day before the deadline, the P1.034 billion in fees imposed by the Mines and Geosciences Bureau (MGB), as it shares government’s concern to protect the environment.

“We believe it was a result of the elements of nature—an event of force majeure,” Michael Toledo, senior vice president for Corporate Affairs at Philex Mining, said. “But even as we are not at fault, we share the concern of government for the environment, thus we are paying the fee, as set by regulators, to cover the costs of remediation and rehabilitation activities.”
