JSY and Silay City continued to keep their record unblemished to remain on top in Class A and B, respectively, in the ongoing 1st Meliton Petron Cup Basketball Tournament held at Carlos Hilado Memorial State College gym in Talisay City.

Back-to-back wins by JSY gave them a 5-0 card after grounding Central Negros Electric Cooperative (Ceneco), 113-107 and successfully pulling a heist off Metro Bank, 130-109.

The Metrobankers in return got back and upset Philippine National Police, 110-100 for its first victory in as many outings. PNP shrugged off the defeat and evened its card to 3-3 with a precise operation over Riverside Medical Center, 109-103 as RMC tried to recover from an anemic 1-4 state.

Foodman also came out hot like a pandesal to burn winless Ceneco, 104-89 and improved its record to 3-1 to take the number two spot in the group.

Completing the Class A team standings are United Architect of the Philippines/Talisay Basketball Athletic Club at number three with a 3-1 slate and Petron (2-2).

In Class B division, Silay City survived a scare from Save More, 79-78 to stay clean with a 3-0 record while SM dropped to number four with a 3-2 card. The Merchandisers suffered a 109-96 defeat from the hands of Recoletos (3-2) but exacted revenge afterwards beating Super Metro Gaisano, 90-86.

SMG ignored the setback and fortified its number two position at 4-2, demolishing the skidding Racal Motorbikers, 89-58.

Du Ek Sam likewise posted its first win in the tournament ironically at the expense of Racal, 82-72 making its rival still winless since the opening.

Ayala Trooper and Ayala ANP complete the team rankings with 2-2 win-loss card each.

League benefactor Rolin Meliton said the tournament's aim is to promote camaraderie and sportsmanship among the participants.
