THE Philippine Blu Girls is set to fly this month to the United States for its training in preparation for the upcoming 2014 Asian Games in Incheon, South Korea set September 19 to October 4.

The Amateur Softball Association of the Philippines-supported clouters include five Negrenses in pitchers Veronica Belleza (Rizal Technological University) and Annalie Benjamin (Adamson University), infielder/outfielder Marlyn Francisco (Rizal Technological University) and Luzviminda Embudo (Adamson University), and outfielder Elma Parohinog (Adamson University).

Belleza, alongside Francisco and Parohinog, used to play for Domingo Lacson National High School under erstwhile national team mentor Hernando “Kulafu” Posadas.

Benjamin also suited up for DLNHS under multi-titled Palarong Pambansa and Little League coach Tony Oquindo Jr. while Embudo played with Bacolod City National High School under former World Series Softball champion coach Reynaldo “Guy” Fuentes and Nelson Dohinog.

Asaphil operations manager Jun Veloso, who also heads the delegation, said the Blu Girls need the training because the Pinays always finish only fourth in the past staging of the Asian Softball Championships.
