4th Brainsbee ni Albee to start Saturday

THIS year’s edition of Brainsbee ni Albee sa District 3 will start on Saturday, July 5, with the launching program in Barangay Cansilayan Murcia at 8 a.m., followed by the simultaneous start of quiz bee in selected barangays of the Third District.

Governor Alfredo Marañon Jr., Murcia Mayor Andrew Montelibano, Negros Occidental Schools division superintendent Dr. Juliet Jeruta, Silay City Schools division superintendent Dr. Neri Anne Alibuyog, Betty Bantug-Benitez Foundation, Inc. (BBBFI) president Armita Bantug Rufino, and BBBFI vice president and Philippine Women’s University president Jose Francisco Benitez will grace the opening program, according to BBBFI executive director Mary Ann Dino.

BBBFI is a major sponsor of the Brainsbee.


Now on its fourth year, the quiz bee will start in Barangays Cansilayan and Damsite in Murcia; Cabatangan and Concepcion in Talisay; 1 and 3 in Silay City; Pasil and Alicante in E. B. Magalona; and 9 and 13 in Victorias City from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Brainsbee is the first community-based spelling, math and science contest in the province, initiated in 2009 by then BBBFI president Alfredo Benitez who eventually became the representative of the Third District in May 2010.

The spelling contest is for elementary pupils, while the math and science quiz bee is for high school students.

Benitez had then envisioned a unique academic competition that is open to all elementary and high schools students residing in the Third District.

With the support of the Department of Education (DepEd), the provincial and local government units, barangay officials of the 115 barangays in the district, Brainsbee had reached out to 12,650 youths by 2012 during its 3rd run.

Today, Brainsbee has become a much-awaited event in the barangays of the Third District, its press release said.

BBBFI continues to be the major sponsor of the Brainsbee, in partnership with the Benitez’s congressional office, with the DepEd heads and teachers providing technical expertise and assistance.

The barangay eliminations will continue on all Saturdays and Sundays of July and August. The finals for the city and town level are set on September, while the grand finals will be on October 12. (PR)
