Sweet Crystal, Royal Star eliminated

HUMINOVA Tigers scored a crucial victory over Sweet Crystal Sugar, 93-86 and JSY Transport (5-2) clinched a tie for second place after overpowering Royal Star Trading Friday in the Fil-Sino All Asian Countertrade Inc. first conference inter-company tournament at the Bacolod Tay Tung High School Po Hang Gym.

The Tigers is still alive for a quarterfinals slot at 2-4, but it is a different story for Sweet Crystal and Royal Star as they are eliminated from the tournament with a game left at 1-6.

Sweet Crystal played with a sense of urgency in the first half taking a 47-41 lead as Ralph Richard Tan and Livingstone Ang scored 13 points apiece while teammates Mark Yu and Nico Lopingco added eight points each.


Leonard Kilayko and Brian Tan combined for 25 points to keep the Tigers within striking distance in the first half.

Tigers overtook Sweet in the third canto 69-67 as Kilayko continue to shine for the Tigers with nine points, and Brian Ong adding six points.

Nico Lopingco and Atty. Jubert Katalbas combined for 14 points for Sweet but RB Chua who only played in the fourth quarter scored 10 points to complement the six points of Kilayko to stay alive for a quarterfinals slot.

Kilayko sizzled with 28 points, Brian Tan added 19 points, Glin Ortaliz delivered 17 points, Ong hit 10 points and R. De Los Santos chipped in nine points.

The bullstrong Ang led Sweet with 19 points, Ralph Richard Tan sunk 18 points, Lopingco picked up 15 points, Katalbas and Yu shot 14 points each, Toffel Tan had six points.

Royal Star tried to fend off elimination fought JSY Transport to a halftime standoff at 41 all as Eugene Tsai made 20 points and Johann Villanueva 11 points even as Carlo Chu scored 12 points for JSY Transport.

It was a different story in the second half as JSY Transport delivered the knockout blow on Royal Star. Royal Star was limited to seven points in the third quarter with Chu and Timothy Uy scored seven points each as JSY Transport zoomed to a 66-48 lead.

JSY did not let up with their offense as Ryan ALegario scored eight points and Julius Teruel scored seven points to eliminate Royal Star Trading from contention.

Chu propelled JSY Transport with 21 points, Alegario added 16 points, Teruel, Timothy Uy and Ardian Ong conspired for 13 points apiece and, Joseph Tiu made 10 points.

Tsai scored a game-high 27 points in a losing effort, Villanueva plucked 19 points, Eduardo Ng picked up 10 points, and Devin Villacruz had six points
