PHL vs Myanmar in AFC U14 semis today

THE Philippine U14 Girls squad takes on Myanmar today in the first semifinal match of the ongoing Asian Football Confederation Regional Championship played at the Thong Nhat Stadium in Ho Chi Minh, Vietnam.

The Filipinas secured the semis berth after successfully topping Group A with a five-nil win over Cambodia during the elimination round and remained undefeated with three victories for nine points.

Davaoeña skipper Joyce Omboy Semacio scored the opening goal in the 26th minute as Cebuana Itsuko Maree Bacatan doubled it in the 44th minute for an early two-nil advantage after 45 minutes of play.


In the second half, Cambodian forward Meth Mariyan nailed an own goal in the 55th minute and gave Philippines a three-nil lead before Linday Whaley fired Pinay’s fourth goal in the 56th minute.

Bacolod native Chloe Hails sealed it in the 67th minute.

Earlier, the Philippines survived defending champion Vietnam, 1-nil on Whaley’s goal in the 28th minute.

Tournament’s reigning runner-up Thailand will try to avenge last year’s championship loss against Vietnam in another semis battle.

Thailand topped Group B while Vietnam is No. 2 in Group A. (HGD)
