Record 300 teams joining Ceres Cup

SOME 300 teams will see action in the 1st Ceres Cup 7-A-Side Football Tournament today and Sunday in three football pitches in the cities of Bacolod and Talisay.

Local and visiting clubs across the country converge and compete against their own age group.

Under-9 and Under-10 are all open to boys, girls or mixed teams. Under-11, Under-12 and Under-13 are for the boy’s category; Under-14 boys and girls, Under-16 boys, Under-18 men and ladies, Under-20 men, Men’s and Ladies’ Open and 38-Above.


Seeing action at the Carlos Hilado Memorial State College pitch are 24 sides in the U-9 while there are 28 teams for U10. Thirty-four teams are included for the U-12.

Over at the Ceres FC Mandalagan pitch, nine teams are playing in U-14 girls.

Playing at the main venue in the Ceres FC North pitch are the 24 teams in the U-14 boys while there are 29 teams in the U-16 boys.

Sixteen teams will play in the U-18 ladies division while 10 teams, in the 10 teams in the 38-Above and 34 teams in the Men’s Open. There will be 23 teams in the Ladies Open.

The football festival, a vision of Ceres FC manager and Organizing Committee Chairman Leo Rey Yanson, is aimed at providing football enthusiasts the opportunity to foster and exhibit sportsmanship in a competitive, safe, and friendly environment.

“It also seeks to encourage and promote football development in Negros Occidental,” said Organizing Committee vice chairman Nicolas Golez.
