CERES-LA SALLE FC of the Philippines managed a draw last night against the Rimyongsu Club of Democratic People’s Republic of Korea, 2-all, in the 2014 Asian Football Confederation (AFC) President’s Cup Group B Qualifier at the Panaad Park and Stadium.
Fil-Spanish Juani Guirado scored early in the 10th minute for Ceres with an indirect kick off a penalty just outside the box, bringing the full packed stadium in frenzy.
The Rimyongsu squad equalized in the 39th minute through Ri Kwang Hyok in a scramble at the goal’s mouth to end the first half, 1-all. Goalie Michael Casas had his hands full saving and deflecting near goals as the Koreans relentlessly attacked.
Fil-German striker Patrick Reichelt gave back the home team the advantage in the 49th minute but Hyok scored his second in the 60th minute to even the scoreboard anew after Casas miscalculated a looper and rushed out from his post.
Ceres coach Cha Soung Yooung said that his team played well despite the draw and promised to play better in their next match.
Team manager Ali Bernard Go admitted that they made a crucial error in the second half but credited Casas for the numerous saves he made which has more weight than his blunder.
For the DPRK, they said that the game was tough pointing that the change of weather somewhat affected their players.
Rimyongsu head coach Jo Man Ho credited Ceres for playing well.
“It’s a good experience for us and now we know what we have to do,” he said.
HTTU of Turkmenistan dominated Tatung of Chinese Taipei, 2-0 in the second game.
Games on Thursday pit DPR Korea against FC HTTU (TKM) at 5 p.m. and Ceres La Salle FC versus Tatung Company at 7:30 p.m.*
