TOP Prime Stable's Jerry “Dangerous” Nardo finally earned his spurs when he claimed the Philippine Boxing Federation (PBF) super bantamweight title last Thursday in Himamaylan City after failing last year.

The 22-year-old Escalante City native stopped Jilo Merlin in the third round of the fight scheduled for 10 marking his second victory after back-to-back defeats last year.

Nardo, who halted Rolly Lino in the fourth of their eight-round match last year became the third champion protegee of Rev. Henry Guanzon’s Top Prime Stable.

PBF champions Rhay Rhay “Striker” Guanzon in bantamweight division and flyweight champion Juan “The Punisher” Purisima are being groomed to follow the footsteps of the TPS boxers who have gone to greater heights.

Guanzon has knocked down Jerson “Tuko” Luzarito of Butuan City in the “No Mercy 7” last April 9 while Purisima claimed the title last year.

Hometown hero Jun Jessie “Tornado” Ibgos remained undefeated as he registered his eighth victory – all by way of knockout, when he stopped John Rey Millegen in the fourth round of the scheduled six-round clash.

Ibgos wins were against Robert Awetin (December 2013), Lyndon Castillo (September 2013), Mamark Siano (July 2013), Johnrey Lorico (March 2013), Arvin Camoro (December 2013), Vonjeryl Gino (October 2012), and John Boyles (July 2012).

In the undercard, Paul Varona and Alvin Sibugan ended the four-round clash in a majority draw.

The boxing spectacular was presented by JR Eagles Promotions and bankrolled by the City Government of Himamaylan, and sanctioned by the Games and Amusement chaired by Monju Guanzon and Bacolod OIC Donna Mae Martir. (HGD)
