Guanzon faces Luzarito for PBF crown tonight-A A +A
Wednesday, April 9, 2014
PRIDE and honor is at stake in today's fight night dubbed “No Mercy 7” at Barangay Pahanocoy in Bacolod City.
The Philippine Boxing Federation (PBF) bantamweight title is vacant and Top Prime Stable’s Rhay Rhay “Striker” Guanzon (17-1 win-loss, 5KOs) of Bacolod wants to have that belt.
Jerson “Tuko” Luzarito (8-5-3 win-loss-draw, 1KO) of Butuan City dreamed of it, too.
Whoever is left standing between the two 118-pounders after the 10-round championship match will wrap the coveted prize around his waist.
It will be crucial, after years of molding some of the country’s top fighters, for Rev. Henry Guanzon as he brings his own son into this championship clash.
The 24-year-old Guanzon is looking at keeping his winning streak after a lone defeat in November 2010 at the former Pagcor Hotel and Casino in Bacolod. His last victory came via a third round TKO of Jason Egera of Siaton, Negros Oriental.
Luzarito, who is fighting for the Pagaspas Stable, is not thinking of losing as he came from a unanimous decision defeat against Jetly Purisima last February 22 in General Santos City.
Guanzon, interviewed over “Aksyon Isports” of dyEZ Aksyon Radyo-Bacolod, said that he will do everything to capture this title.
“I will do my best to win this fight and not to disappoint those who believe in me,” he said.
Fighting for the undercard are Louie Arlos (8-3, 2KOs) and Junior Salvador of Mandaue, Cebu.
Arlos, 23, aims to redeem himself after back-to-back defeats last year to Jessie Espina in October 2013. He also failed in his bid for the PBF light flyweight title against Vergilio Silvano in February of the same year.
Tonight’s match between Arlos and Salvador is their second after their first face-off in 2012 where the former prevailed via a unanimous decision.
