THIS year’s edition of the National Private Schools Athletic Association (Prisaa) kicks off April 6 and will run until April 10 in Tagum City with thousands of athletes, coaches and officials expected to see action.
Eighteen events are lined up including team sports baseball, basketball, beach volleyball, football, sepak takraw, softball and volleyball.
Individual events are athletics, badminton, boxing, chess, dance sports, judo, karatedo, lawn tennis, swimming, table tennis and taekwando.
Western Visayas, which is eyeing to defend its titles in men's football, volleyball and badminton, is among the top contenders.
The Region 6 delegation headed by executive director Roger Banzuela includes 100 athletes from the Negros Occidental Private Schools Sports, Cultural and Educational Association.
The annual Prisaa meet was founded in 1953 with the aim to develop self-discipline and athleticism among athletes from private schools.
It was shelved after its 1972 staging at Paglaum Sports Complex giving way for the integration of sports competition for public and private schools, including the out-of-school youth.
It was revived in 1990 after sports leaders from 14 regions pushed for its restoration. (HGD)
