Bacolod, Escalante, Silay, Cadiz ‘A’ woodpushers shine-A A +A

THE cities of Bacolod, Escalante, Silay and Cadiz "A" captured the various age-group titles in the 21st Panaad Festival Chess Tournament held at the VIP room of the Panaad Park and Stadium in Bacolod City.
Kenan John Anoran and Valerio Mangubat accumulated 13 points for the Renato Anoran-mentored Team Bacolod to dominate the 17-Under Boys team event, prevailing in boards 1 and 2 with 6 and 7 points, respectively.
Both went home with a cash incentive of P1,500 for the team event and P300 each as individual winners.
La Castellana “A” finished second with 9.5 points winning P1,000 while Cadiz City “B” settled for third with 8.5 points plus an incentive of P700.
The 17-U girls of Escalante City “A” were unfazed by the opposition and collected 12 points to emerge champion. The duo went home with P1,500 while La Castellana settled for second followed by Cadiz City-A, Escalante B and Bacolod City.
Silay City's team of Kye Jan Melihon and Roy Amiel Junto bagged the crown in the 13 Under Boys after scoring 12 points followed by the Bacolod City tandem of Clark Ken Pelione and Kian Shane Anoran with 11 points.
Escalante City-A scored 9.0 points (54.0 BH) to edge La Castellana-A, 9.0 points (53.5 BH), for a third place finish.
In the 13-Under Girls, Cadiz City-A was victorious garnering 11.0 points followed by Escalante City-A with 10.0 points and La Castellana-C with 10.0 points (60.0 BH) in the three-day tournament.
James Toga, manager of Bacolod Chess Team, lauded the good finish of his players stressing that although the Bacolod team did not dominate the tournament, they have showed what they are capable of doing. (HGD)
