LOPUE’S Table Tennis Association (Loptta) captured the championship of the 6th Lopue's National Table Tennis Open held March 28 to 30 at the Lopue's San Sebastian Department Store Annex Building in Bacolod City.

The host also emerged first runner-up in the men’s team event while its distaff side copped second and fourth places.

Richard Gonzales, Celjun Ortalla and Mark Francis Jimenez of Loptta-A dominated the men’s team event by sweeping its opponents in the elimination round. With a clean slate, the local paddlers gained a twice-to-beat advantage en route to the finals.

Loptta B's team of Rodel Valle, John Paul Gubaton and Angel Cuenca Jr. was impressive in the semis after stopping Cebu's Huaching team of Lauro Crisostomo, Johanne Remaneses and Glendo Nayre in a quality match on a decider, 3-2.

Huaching settled for second runner-up honors with a 3-0 win over eventual third runner-up University of Cebu team of Jessica Jawad composed of Julius Esposo, Val Stephen Jaca, Dannel Jay Tormis and Francis Bendebel.

It was an all-Loptta team in the final with both teams deciding to play a single match showdown with Loptta A's Gonzales ruling over promising player JP Gubaton of Loptta B in two straight sets.

Loptta's A team of Marell Lagunday and Emy Rose Dael took the silver medal after losing to eventual grand slam champion Table Tennis Association for National Development (Tatand) team composed of current Philippine No. 1 player Yanyan Lariba and Sandra Bazar, 2-1.

Loptta A had to bounce back from an earlier loss to Makati's Crisanta Abas and Jona Sibal during the elimination round, 2-1.

Loptta B's Rose Jean Fadol, Juliette Gayoso and Ann Gella Borbon settled for third runner-up honors in tournament that attracted 115 top table tennis athletes.
