FOR Filipino champions, the quest for boxing supremacy never ends.
Reigning World Boxing Council (WBC) international super featherweight champion Ryan “The Crusher” Sermona of Himamaylan City and defending Philippine Boxing Federation (PBF) flyweight champion Juan “The Punisher” Purisima of General Santos City are set to fight in Japan this April in separate dates.

Sermona (16-4 win-loss card, 9KOs) will face Shirgo Eto (12-2-1, 8KOs) in an eight-round clash on April 14 at the Korakuen Hall in Tokyo.

The 26-year-old Negrense booked a fourth round TKO against Matt Garlett (11-1) and captured the WBC international super featherweight title during the December 2013 clash at Northbridge in Australia.

He’s likewise the defending Games and Amusement board super featherweight titlist after defeating Balweg Bangoyan via technical draw.

Meanwhile, Purisima (11-1-4 win-draw-loss, 4KOs) who is fighting off TopPrime Stable of Bacolod City, will test the undefeated and reigning WBA light flyweight champion Roman “Chocolatito” Gonzalez (38 wins, 32 KOs) of Nicaragua in a 10-round clash on April 6, at the Ota-City General Gymnasium in Tokyo.

The General Santos-born Purisima is looking forward to bounce back from a unanimous decision defeat against undefeated Ukrainian Artem Dalakian for the WBA International Flyweight championship held in August 2013 in Donbass Arena in Donetsk, Ukraine.

Gonzalez, who is also a former WBA minimumweight champion, is coming off from four straight victories all by TKO.

For the Top Prime Stable fighter, he’s confident that he can match Gonzalez.

“I know I can match him. I saw his previous fights. His only advantage is experience,” Purisima said. “I will do my best to win this fight.”
