REIGNING WBO minimumweight champion Merlito “Tiger” Sabillo's entourage arrived in Monterrey, Mexico on Wednesday and ALA Promotions’ vice president and general manager Dennis Cañete said, “it has always been twice as hard defending your title in the enemy’s hometown.”

The Filipino champion from Negros Occidental with 23-0-1 (12 KOs) record will defend his title against 20-year-old Mexican challenger Francisco “Chihuas” Rodriguez Jr. (13-2 win-loss card with 9KOs) tomorrow March 22 at the latter’s hometown.

“The fight is in Monterrey, Mexico – the hometown of Rodriguez and Sabillo knows well the challenges thus he trained hard in the United States for this fight. We hope for the best for Sabillo,” the ALA Promotions official said.

“Tiger” has studied Rodriguez’s fights whom he saw as quite a tough customer. I will do everything I can to defend my championship belt. I pray that I win this fight,” Sabillo added.

The Toboso-born Sabillo who grew up in Barangay Singcang-Airport in Bacolod City will be joined by coach Edito Villamor and Michael Domingo in his corner.

In March 9, 2013, Sabillo fought his first fight in Latin American soil where he defeated Columbian Luis de la Rosa in Coliseo Mario de Leon.
