DEFENDING champion St. John’s Institute (SJI) volleybelles stomped Bacolod Tay Tung High School (BTTHS) in three straight sets, 25-22, 25-22, to keep its Negros Occidental Private Schools Sports, Cultural and Educational Association (Noppscea) title in the Aspirant finals at the University of St. La Salle College Covered Court.

Coach Peter Yusay's girls overcame the twice-to-beat advantage of BTTHS with a 25-14, 25-20 win in their first meeting.

Skipper and setter Angelica Sy executed perfect serves and SJI mounted an error-free comeback to wipe out Tay Tung’s five-point lead to take the driver's seat and successfully defend their crown.

With team captain Sy are Natasha Escares, Faye Ruth de Lumen, Marixi Maliduat, Nicole Jison and Josie Ortega. Yusay was assisted by Michael Baloyo.

Coach Alex Ballili's Silay City-based St. Francis of Assisi School settled for the third place after beating Living Stone International School. (HGD)
