THE four junior players of Lopue's Table Tennis Association (Loptta) qualified for the 20th South East Asian Junior Championships slated June 16 to 22 at Brunei Darussalam.

They made it the list after making an impressive performance in the National Juniors Qualifying Tournament held at the Batangas Convention Center, Batangas City last March 8 and 9.

Joshua Castro captured the gold in the Boys 15 and Under Category with a clean sweep of all his opponents and by avenging his loss to Jj Templado of General Santos City, who defeated him in the Batang Pinoy National Finals held in Bacolod City.

Ann Gella Borbon took the silver in the Girls 15 and Under while teammates Francis Garganian and Janley Manzanares won the second and third runner-up honors, respectively, in the Boys 18 and Under earning them a slot for the Philippine Junior Team.

The team is mentored by Loptta mainstay Marell Lagunday and Hosea Alvarez.

“It was a very tough qualifying tournament as our kids have to top their group and then sustain their winning forms in the top 16 knockout play. It was survival of the fittest. We thank God that all our kids made it,” Lopue said.

Earlier, Loptta's Emy Rose Dael and Hua Ching's Jann Marie Nayre earned an automatic spot in the Philippine Junior Team after winning in the Batang Pinoy National Finals.
