Nestea advances to FS ABI finals

NUMBER 4 Crossfit Creamy Yogurt upset top seed Absolute Distilled Water 108-101, while No. 2 Nestea Iced Tea survived No. 3 Synchrotek-Summit 85-81 to advance to the finals in Class A of the Fil-Sino Asia Brewery Inc. Invitational Cup at the Bacolod Tay Tung High School Po Hang Gym.

Luckily, Absolute was armed with a twice to beat advantage and will tangle with Crossfit on March 12 for the other finals slot.

Crossfit with a 76-73 lead with less than a minute left in the third quarter found themselves down early in the fourth quarter 88-77 on 4 successive Robbie Jalando-on triples.


Creamy Yogurt continue to put some pressure on Absolute with its fastbreak attacks anchored on Charles Del Castillo while Jalando-on made two more three pointers to keep Absolute in the lead 94-86.

Crossfit offensive mindset was to quicken the pace of the game for fastbreak opportunities finally paid dividends as they ignited a crippling 12-0 run at the crucial stage of the contest starting with a Pol Morales triple, Charles del Castillo six straight layup points and a three point play by Raymund Lacson to put Crossfit in the driver’s seat 100-96 with 1:26 left.

A Jalando-on layup and Ritchie Militante free throws tied the game at 101 all 30 seconds later.

It was the end-game brilliance of Brian Coo that bailed out Crossfit as he scored seven points in the last 10.6 sec. in the game to complete the come behind win.

Coo made a coast to coast layup to break the tie, intercepted the pass in the ensuing play and converted on two free throws. He made another steal and knocked down a triple as time expired.

Crossfit took the half 50-44 on Raymund Lacson 12 points Pol Morales nine points, Del Castillo and Jeremy Coo six points apiece. Ritchie Militante 13 points and Mark Binguan 11 points led the offense for Absolute

Crossfit was in the lead majority in the third quarter on Edrem Sansing three triples and Brian Coo putbacks while Absolute remains within striking distance with its nine triple conversion in the quarter. Absolute grab the lead going to the fourth quarter 79-73 on an 8-0 closing quarter run.

Del Castillo propel Creamy Yogurt with 22 points, Brian Coo added 19 points, Lacson scored 18 points, Morales delivered 12 points.

Jalando-on scored 29 points with 27 points in the second half to lead Absolute, backstopped by Militante 18 points, Mark Binguan 17 points, Carl John Oquindo 14 points, Ren Ren Lacson nine points and Cris Javelosa eight points.

In the other semis encounter Nestea facing a 71-68 deficit with seven minutes left in the fourth quarter embarked on a 12-2 run highlighted by a Bobby Yap triple for an 80-73 lead with 2:35 left. (With reports from Stephen Tan)
