DOMINGO Lacson National High School, the reigning Palarong Pambansa and Batang Pinoy National Finals champions, stood its ground against Iloilo clouters to capture the title of last Sunday's “Battle of Softball Champions” at Hacienda Lonoy Ballpark in Silay City.

The home squad proved that they are still the best team in the country beating by Prisaa champion Central Philippine University-Iloilo, 2-0 in the opening game. The Lacsonian lasses later crushed defending Asia-Pacific Softball champion Zarraga National High School, 15-5.

Iloilo squads scored double wins over Carlos A. Hilado Memorial State College of Talisay City, the reigning State Colleges and Universities Athletic Association champion, with Zarraga prevailing 7-4 and Central Philippine University dominating, 10-2.

Tournament director Antonio “Tony” Oquindo Jr. said the Banago-based squad went home with a trophy, medals and cash incentives while Zarraga NHS and CPU shared the second place award.

Adolf Ledesma, one of the organizers and owner of the only international standard diamond in Negros Occidental, said that the event aims to establish a friendly rivalry between two provinces.

The "battle" provided Palaro-bound Negros clouters and National Prisaa and Philippine Series-going Iloilo batters tough tests before competing against more superior adversaries.

The event was sponsored by Casey Ledesma, Michael and Ging Graham, Dr. S. Alvin, Barbara Sanico, Reynaldo Fuentes, Adolf Ledesma, City Council of Silay, Daces Purified Drinking Water, and Scoop-Bacolod Inc.
