Crossfit upsets Nestea-A A +A

CROSSFIT Creamy Yogurt upset top seeded and undefeated Nestea Iced Tea 90-87 while Cobra Energy Drink stung Manila Beer 81-68 in the Fil-Sino Asia Brewery Inc. invitational Cup played last Monday at Bacolod Tay Tung High School Po Hang Gym.
Crossfit got a big lift from its reserves Keith Banzon and Edrem Sansing as they combined to knock down seven treys in the third quarter to overcome a halftime 48-44 deficit and stay in front 73-64 going to the fourth quarter.
In the payoff quarter, Nestea rallied behind Arnol Laureño, Yan yan Dy and RB Chua as they caught up with Creamy Yogurt on a triple by Chua at 87 all.But the Nestea rally fell short as Leandro Francisco scored on a layup and Pol Morales free throw settled the final count of the game.
Nestea remain atop Class A with a 5-1 card, while Crossfit Creamy Yogurt improved to 2-4.
Charles Del Castillo scored nine of his teamhigh 20 points, in the fourth quarter , Brian Coo added 15 points, Banzon finished with 14 points, Sansing shot 11 points, Danty Ma contributed seven points , Raymund Lacson had five points, and Martin Jalandoni with four points.
Laureño had a gamehigh 22 points in a losing effort, RB Chua shot 20 points, Badong Eufre picked up 15 points, Yan Yan Dy delivered 14 points, and Popoy Chua with seven points.
In the second game, Manila Beer could not hang on to its halftime lead of 33-30 as they succumbed to the man to man defense of Cobra Energy.
Cobra Energy took advantage of a Manila Beer playing without a guard as they forced the turnovers and outscore the Beermen 30-12 for a 60-45 lead going to the fourth quarter.
In the third quarter Ralph Richard Tan propelled Cobra with three triples, Julius Teruel picked up seven points, and Michael Ang hit two treys.
Andre Tan knocking down 11points in the fourth quarter for Manila Beer could not lift his team to victory as Romar Desusa countered with nine points for Cobra to secure its second straight win after a 0-3 start.
Romar Desusa finished with 19 points to spearhead the Cobra offense, Atty. Jubert Katalbas fired 11 of his 13 points in the first quarter, Chief Supt. Adonis Rosales and Teruel scored 12 points apiece, Ang shot 10 points, Tan picked up nine points, and Brian Ong with six points.
Manila Beer finished its elimination round at 3-3 and is assured of a quarter finals slot was paced by Chipeng Uy 15 points, backstopped by Biboy Yap 14 points, Rey Jara 12 points and Bobet Ganaban nine points. (HGD/With reports from Stephen Tan)
