Bacolod, Iloilo split NBTC-All Star games

TEAM 1 of Bacolod All-Stars tripped Iloilo, 82-68 but the Ilonggos got even with a 74-67 win over Bacoleños Team 2 in the SeaOil-National Basketball Training Center All-Star Weekend held at West Negros University gym in Bacolod City.

Coach Jack Tumayan of champion WNU relied on Bacolod leg MVP Keith Pido who drilled in 11 points, backstopped by Jesmar Pedrosa of Bacolod Tay Tung High School and Romel Montero of Living Heritage Christian Academy, who combined for 17 points.

Spencer Pretta scored 21 points and Andrew Suarez added 16 for Iloilo Team 1 coached by John Guanco whose wards were simply outplayed by a more superior select squad.


Coach Joefel Cercado of Team 2 Iloilo proved steadier in a highly physical game to upend Bacolod All Star 2 mentored by LHCA's Nymer Nieves.

The Ilonggos got 20 points from John Joshua Edjan, 16 from Ronielo Parohinog and 15 from Paul Calvo. The Bacolodnons were led by Miggy Corteza and Sam Josef Belangel of the Thunderbolts and UNO-R's Yulo who combined for 35 points.

All the Stars from four squads were chosen based on the number of accumulated points for purchased SeaOil fuel and other oil products.

The Bacolod and Iloilo leg champions will advance to the national finals at Ultra (PhilSports Arena) in Pasig City on March 6. (HGD)
