PHL Azkals calls up 3 Negrense booters

NEWLY-APPOINTED Philippine football men’s team and Azkals head coach Thomas Dooley called up three Negrenses to join the 34 home-based players in the national training pool in preparation for the AFC Challenge Cup in Maldives this coming May.

Veteran keeper Eduard Sacapaño of Bago City, defender Reymark Fernandez of Victorias City, and midfielder Niel Ryan Lirio of San Carlos City will join other well-known Filipino-foreigner mainstays of Azkals.

Goalie Sacapano is a holdover from the present Azkals roster while Green Archers United FC defender Fernandez was a member of the national team U23 during the 2011 Southeast Asian Games.


Current Philippine Air Force wingman Lirio has suited up with Negros Occidental Football Association-Ceres which won the 2011 PFF-Suzuki U23 National Cup.

Lirio and Sacapaño are products of multi-titled West Negros University Mustangs under former national men’s team mentor and standout Norman Fegidero Jr.

Fernandez also played for the defending NOFA-Ceres team during the 2013 PFF-Suzuki U23 National Cup.

Other standouts given notice are Azkals siblings Phil and James Younghusband of Loyola Meralco Sparks FC, Global FC’s twin brothers Marvin and Marwin Angeles, Carlos de Murga, Jerry Barbaso, Mark Hartmann, Jason de Jong, Jeffrey Christiaens and Misagh Bahadoran; Kaya FC’s Jose Elmer Porteria and Christopher Greatwich; Green Archers United FC Chieffy Caligdong; and newly-signed to Ceres-La Salle FC Patrick Reichelt.

Returning too are national standouts are Anton del Rosario of Kaya FC, Nate Burkey of Pachanga Diliman FC, Global FC’s Paolo Pascual and former Azkal Chad Gould.

Also invited are Global FC’s Charles Pettys and Amani Aguinaldo; Stallion FC’s Simone Rota and Milan Justin Arends; Kenshiro Daniels and Nick O’Donnell of Kaya FC; Green Archers United FC’s Patrick Deyto and Ronnie Aguisanda; Philippine Air Force FC Jake Hugo and Rudolf Bebanco; Deo Segunial andNathan Octavio of Pachanga Diliman FC; and Curt Dizon of Union Internacional Manila.
