Negros shuttlers sweep regional meet

NEGROS Occidental badminton teams will return to the 2014 Palarong Pambansa in Laguna after they swept the elementary and secondary titles Wednesday in the Western Visayas Regional Athletic Association Meet in Antique.

Negros bets Justin Daniel Anglo and Sean Justin de Jesus shared the gold and silver honors in the boys elementary singles, while Susmita Angelique Ramos and Ellana Tan took the top honors in the girls singles.

Negrense elementary boys doubles of John Daniel Ababao and Carl Jericho Tan prevailed over Iloilo team. The elementary distaff duo of Leoj Derayunan and Cheska Kaye Lomugdang beat their Iloilo counterparts.


Both the boys and girls elementary teams captured the team tie competitions after beating Aklan and Iloilo, respectively.

Senior high Carlo Lopez won over Iloilo’s Carlo Golez in the finals of the boys secondary singles to secure another trip to Palarong Pambansa while teammate Earl Carballo settled for bronze.

The Negros boys doubles of Hienrick Garcia and Geric Reinoso fall short after yielding to their Ilonggo rivals.

Daniel Lopez and Mitzi Pantoja shared the top honors in the girls singles event as the duo of Amica Duay and Mia Manguilimutan won over their Iloilo rivals.

The secondary girls captured the team tie while the boys team finished second.

In softball, defending champion Negros clouters enjoyed a twice-to-beat advantage after escaping Iloilo yesterday, 2-1 while the Iloilo batters grabbed the upperhand in the elementary division after beating the Negrenses in the elimination round. (HGD)
