WV set for 2014 reg’l meet in Antique

WITH the Batang Pinoy National Finals used as a springboard and an assessment event on how far their preparations are, the Negros Occidental athletes are thinking positively and ready for the 2014 Western Visayas Regional Athletic Association (WVRAA) Meet set February 9 to 14 at the Evelio B. Javier Memorial Sports Complex in San Jose de Buenavista, Antique.

With the theme “Playing Together, Building Together, Rising Together” as its rallying slogan, the week-long Department of Education-sanctioned competition will start its grand parade from the the Evelio B. Javier Freedom Park to EBJMS Complex.

The ocular inspection of Antique delegation will be held today at the Atabay Elementary School while the same activity for Aklan delegation will transpire at the Assemblyman Segundo Moscoso Memorial School.


Technical officials will start arriving tomorrow followed by the ocular inspection of the Iloilo delegation at the Antique National School. The Negros delegation will be scrutinized in the afternoon at the Sibalom Central School.

The February 8 orientation ad refresher course of technical officials will be conducted at the Angel Salazar Jr. Memorial School while the ocular inspection of Guimaras delegation takes place at the Antique National High School.

The day will be highlighted by a 6:30 p.m. Congressman and Governor’s Night at the Evelio B. Javier Memorial Sports Center.

Events to be competed are archery at the Villa del Carmen Inland Resort; arnis, Advance Central College; athletics, basketball, football, tennis, sipa, elementary and secondary volleyball, and special events, Evelio B. Javier Memorial Sports Complex; badminton and taekwondo, Evelio B. Javier Memorial Sports Center; Elementary and secondary baseball, Saint Anthony’s College Field; chess, Division of Antique rooftop; gymnastics, Angel Salazar Jr. Memorial School gym; softball, Antique National School field; sepak takraw, Antique National School quadrangle; swimming, Binirayan swimming pool; and table tennis, Saint Anthony’s College De Witt Hall.

Alternative venues are San Pedro gym and Hamtic municipal gym for basketball while for volleyball, AU gym, Sibalom gym and Hamtic municipal gym.

Boxing event, as of press time, has yet to have its venue.
Around 400 athletes, and more than 100 coaches, 201 technical officials from Bacolod and Negros Occidental will officiate in 20 events. (HGD)
