NegOcc taekwondo jins wins gold in Batang Pinoy finals

BATANG Pinoy 2013 hosts Bacolod City and Negros Occidental had a tough time defending their ground in the national finals held January 28 to February 1.

Tasked in keeping the Negrense pride, the hosts LGUs dominated track and field, and other major sports but Quezon City gathered more golds to win the top seat with a harvest of 29 gold, 22 silver and 19 bronze medals.

Baguio City finished second with 22-18-10 medal take while Negros Occidental collected 19 golds, 11 silvers and 14 bronzes good for third.


Cebu was three golds behind with 16-19-19 followed by Iloilo City with 13 gold and four bronze medals.

Laguna was sixth with 12-7-16, Zamboanga City followed with 11-13-18 and co-host Bacolod City was at number with eight gold, 14 silver and 29 bronze medals.

The Manila contingent hauled 8-4-4, and Pangasinan, 7-19-20, to finish at ninth and 10th places, respectively.

Zarraga of Iloilo finished at the bottom of the medal standing with a lone bronze medal.

Some 2,000 athletes competed in arnis, athletics, cycling, swimming, triathlon, boxing, dancesport, cheerdance competition, volleyball, lawn tennis, table tennis, badminton, chess, softball, taekwondo, futsal, basketball 3-on-3, sepak takraw, weightlifting, karatedo and wrestling. (HGD)
