KEITH Pido repeated as Most Valuable Player of the SeaOil-National Basketball Training Center Bacolod Leg scoring 25 points to lead defending champion West Negros University (WNU) to an 89-79 win over Living Heritage Christian Academy (LHCA) Saturday.
Fellow Junior Mustangs Phil Pajanconi and John Lemuel Pastias added 21 and 14 points, respectively, to repeat its elimination round triumph over the same squad which played listlessly at crunch time.
LHCA was able to trail 15-16 in the first quarter after a 2-12 start and was on top, 42-40, at half on a 27-24 second canto run. It was their last taste of the lead as WNU broke the third part wide open with a killer 27-11 surge for a 67-53 windup.
The Junior Mustangs coasted to its easy win despite giving the last quarter 22-26 to the Taculing-based squad led by Kenneth Tulipas' 19 markers.
John Dimanalata and Sydril Seballos added 12 points apiece and Jayvie Ayupan quarterbacked with 10 in a disappointing loss.
WNU will advance to the national finals at Ultra in March.
Meanwhile, the Seaoil-NBTC All Star in Bacolod featuring two local select squads against two from Iloilo has been postponed until the Panay leg is finished, said tournament commissioner Jake Azucena. (HGD)
