Synchrotek beats Foxshox, Nestea posts 2nd win vs Crossfit

SYNCHROTEK-SUMMIT survived a thrilling down the wire finish squeaking past Foxshox/Decada X Vitamilk 82-81 while Nestea Iced Tea notched its second victory at the expense of Crossfit-Creamy Yogurt 84-79 in Class A of the Fil-Sino Asia Brewery Inc. Invitational Cup at Po Hang gym of Bacolod Tay Tung High School.

Scott Salvacion scored the last five points for Synchrotek-Summit to bail them out after losing a 15-point lead in the fourth quarter.

Salvacion completed a three-point play to break the deadlock before a George Tupas jumper cut the lead to a point. Foxshox who never had a chance to be in the driver’s seat had a golden opportunity to get the win but Sammy Belangel missed a top of the key jumper as time expired as Synchrotek escaped with its first victory in the tourney.


Three triples apiece by Nico Lopingco and Timothy Dumancas propelled Synchrotek to a halftime 40-39 advantage with support from teammates Jovito Sayson and Daniel Ong combining for 13 points. Jose Miguel Montinola and Mark Belangel delivered 11 and 9 points, respectively for Foxshox/Decada X.

A balance Summit offensive starring Salvacion, Gian Reyes, Carlo Versoza and Sayson gave Synchrotek a 68-53 lead going to the fourth quarter.

The playmaking of the Belangel brothers in the payoff quarter proved to be a big lift setting up the 11 inside points of Peter Paul Ortaliz.

Rique Chua and Mark Belangel also joined in the scoring parade with six points apiece and helped force a deadlock late in the game.

Salvacion paced Summit with 14 points, Timothy Dumancas added 13 points, Jovito Sayson drilled 12 points, Nico Lopingco scored 11 points, Carlo Versoza contributed eight points, Gian Reyes had seven points, and Daniel Ong made six points.

Mark Belangel had a gam-ehigh 19 points, Ortaliz picked up 15 points, Sammy Belangel scored 13 points, and Chua hit 12 points.

In the first game, RB Chua scored 13 points in a crucial third quarter where Nestea broke away from a 39-all deadlock to take a 67-56 cushion going into the fourth quarter. Backstopping Chua were teammates Franklyn Madrid and Carlo Chu who conspired for 14 points while Danty Ma scored 11 points for Crossfit.

Brian Coo Raymund Lacson and Leandro Francisco combined for 16 points to keep Crossfit within striking distance. Crossfit putting a premium on defense grounded the offense of Nestea with only Arnol Laureño getting away with eight points, but it was enough for Nestea to hold on for the win.

RB Chua propelled Nestea with 24 points Carlo Chu added 20 points, Laureño and Yan Yan Dy fired 11 points apiece, Franklyn Madrid scored eight points.

Crossfit-Creamy Yogurt was led by Brian Coo with 14 points and backstopped by Charles Del Castillo with 10 points while Luigi Coo and Francisco had nine points each, and Alvin Dionela and Raymund Lacson had eight points apiece. (With reports from Stephen Tan)
