FIDE Master Sander Severino of Silay City brought home three gold medals plus a silver from the 7th ASEAN Para Games in Myanmar from January 11 to 21.
Severino, who wore the national colors since 2005, represented the country for the fifth time.
Myanmar events include the Rapid and Standard where four gold medals were at stake from a total of 24 gold medals, for men and women divisions in the Physically Handicap, B1 (Totally Blind), and B2-B3 (partially blind) categories.
Severino also won three golds in the 6th ASEAN Para Games in Indonesia in 2011; five golds and a silver in Kuala Lumpur (5th Asean PG); and two golds in 4th Para Games in Nakhon Ratchasima, Thailand.
The Silaynon pride likewise bagged five gold medals and a silver in the 3rd ASEAN PG in Manila in 2005.
Severino thanked Silay City Mayor Jose Montelibano, former governor Rafael Coscolluela of the Negros Occidental Sports and Cultural Foundation, and Samuel Colinco, president of the Maranatha Christian College.
Winning is not new for Severino who in 2012 registered the best finish for a Filipino in the 12th Bangkok Chess Club Open, where he placed 15th overall out of 135 players. (HGD)
