THE Negros Occidental Private Schools Sports Cultural Educational Association (NOPSSCEA) Board meets today to decide if the Aspirants and 10-Under competitions will push through or not. Sports Task Force chair Pastor Edwin Madlangbayan postponed his second meeting with coaches Monday night.

Madlangbayan, the replacement for resigned Sports TF honcho Tony Agustin, informed the moderators and mentors that there is no more budget.

Monday's cancelled meeting saved additional meal expense for the beleaguered association. The TF chair would instead be the key figure today as the Board of Trustees asked themselves "where did we go wrong?"

Or probably the NOPSSCEA treasurer will be forced to answer the question "where did our money go?"

Saturday evening at Business Inn as this writer was attending the 60th birthday of Betty, the wife of BUS Group adviser Bing Soyao and the couple's granddaughter Samara Miyoko's first birthday, a text message came in.

It seemed the "shortage of fund" will be blamed against the resigned TF chair who is still a member of the NOPSSCEA Board. But Agustin, in Scoopers' minds, could not defend himself unless he can attend today's meeting.

The sports director of West Negros University, when contacted by a Scooper even said that he used his own money to cover some of the expenses incurred by his committee while managing the games.

Now, who is telling the truth? You can't just blame the sports media for delving into this issue since it will mark the first time that the Aspirants and 10U events will be shelved "for no budget" left.

We hope the NOPSSCEA president and chairman for media affairs will come into the picture and announce what the Board wishes to convey to its member schools, sports moderators, coaches and especially to students who will be greatly affected by this development.

It would not just be right and not bright to say: sorry no more budget. After all the Board is composed of honorable men and women of the academe. They are the cream of the crop, the best of the best to manage NOPSSCEA. This is an elite company.

If they think otherwise, they have no business running the affairs of schools' sports, cultural and educational association. What should be done is to look back and review.

What were the finished activities and the expenses that went with it? Was the opening program at USLS Coliseum simple or lavish one? As one Scoop-Bacolod member commented: why prefer a small costly gym when a bigger cheaper Panaad is just waiting.

How much went to the officiating officials for all the games? How much was spent for NOPSSCEA athletes' uniforms, coaches’ honoraria and other official expenditures in the Provincial Meet?

Was there a share supported to Prisaa contingent in Antique regional meet?

How big or small the slice of the pie that went to the cultural and educational programs, cost of maintenance of the NOPSSCEA building, and the hosting of meetings and other incidental expenses can be accounted in a breeze.

Sportswriters believe that the Board can come up with a nice and win-win solution to this minor problem. The public and the member-schools of NOPSSCEA are awaiting the result.

The parents of these student-athletes are anxious too, whether their bundle of joys can finally compete in their chosen field. Time is ticking and it is barely 60 days before classes close.

And to have a final closure of this issue, perhaps the media affairs committee of NOPSSCEA could come out with a final media release or call a press conference.

Nope, life is not always sweet or sour. Sometimes it is also unfair, if not always.
