NEGROS Occidental Private Schools Sports, Cultural and Educational Association (Nopsscea) confirmed its status as having the best football team in Region 6 after Ceres-La Salle blanked its closest rival Iloilo in the Western Visayas Private Schools Athletic Association (Prisaa) finals Saturday in Antique, 4-nil.

Its victory earned the La Sallians another trip to the national championships in Davao this summer.

Warren Bedia opened Negros' offense in the 20th minute, Nessi Ramos made it two in the 26th minute for an early 2-0 advantage. The Negrenses tried a blowout early but the Ilonggos successfully put up a strong defense to keep a manageable distance at the break.

Both sides came out tough in the final half before J Baguiro connected Nopsscea’s third goal in the 54th minute. Bedia sealed the victory in the 65th minute.

The Negrenses, en route to the finals, demolished Capiz, 12 to nil as Hanessin Prince Antony and Ramos hammered in three goals each while Bedia and Joshua Dutosme scored two goals apiece.

Antony scored in the 7th, 14th and 58th minutes, Ramos added in the 10th, 55th and 64th minutes.

Bedia hit the net in the 27th and 38th minutes, Dutosme fired in the 69th and 85th minutes while Timothy Bolo and Anthony Tongson connected in the 71st and 78th minutes to complete the rout.

Veteran tactician Freddie “Nene” Lazarito and assistant Ramon Janeo handled the team managed by Leo Rey Yanson.
