2,500 athletes expected in Batang Pinoy 2014

SOME 2,540 delegates from across the country are scheduled to compete in the Batang Pinoy National Finals 2014 on January 28 to February 1 in Bacolod City.

The latest figure came from the Batang Pinoy Secretariat as of January 3.

A total of 824 will be coming from Luzon, 647 from the Visayas, 569 from Mindanao, and 500 from hosts Bacolod and Negros Occidental.


The participants and their coaches will be billeted in 10 public schools in Bacolod City with Andres Bonifacio Elementary School I housing the Western Visayas delegation. Andres Bonifacio Elementary School II is reserved for Eastern Visayas while C.L. Montelibano Elementary School is committed to Central Visayas.

D. A. Montelibano Elementary School will host Central Visayas; A. L. Jayme Elementary School-Mansilingan, Mindanao, Agro-Industrial High School, Mindanao; Rizal Elementary School, Luzon; Education and Training Center School-I, Luzon; Education and Training Center School-II, Luzon; and Education and Training Center School-III, Luzon.

Technical officials will be housed at the Bacolod City National High School and Panaad Park and Stadium.

Batang Pinoy Secretariat also released updated venues for 21 scheduled events.

Panaad Stadium will be the staging area for arnis, athletics, cycling, swimming and triathlon. Boxing will be held at the Bays Center; dance sport and cheerdance competition, and volleyball at the University of St. La Salle; lawn tennis at the Montevista Tennis Association court; table tennis at Lopue’s San Sebastian; badminton at Pohang Badminton Center; chess at the Government Center’s MassKara Hall; softball and taekwondo at Bacolod City High School; futsal at Nompac gym; basketball 3-on-3 at Bacolod Tay Tung High School; sepak takraw at University of Negros Occidental-Recoletos; weightlifting at the SM Transport Hub; karatedo at the Robinsons Place; and wrestling at Gaisano Grand mall.
