TRYOUT for the Bacolod Leg of the 2nd Coca-Cola PBA Youngstars Basketball League, aimed to provide a wider avenue for search for the next top cagers in the country, is set on April 10 and 11 at the West Negros University gym.

This event is Coca-Cola Philippines' commitment not only to promote healthy and active living but to reach out to aspiring basketball stars from different cities, provinces and municipalities in the country though the grassroots program.

Ten teams will be seeing action in this provincial leg to be played from April 20 to May 7.

Each team will be composed of 12 players aged 13 to 16 years old. A team shall consist of three 13 year-olds (born 2000); three 14 year-olds (born 1999); three 15 year-olds (born 1998); and three 16 year-olds (born 1997).

Teams will be divided into two groups and will play in a single round-robin format. The top two teams from each group advance to the crossover semifinals with the top finishers to fight for the championship.

The provincial leg champion will earn the right to represent Bacolod and Negros Occidental in the regional finals set from May 10 to 12, either in Iloilo or Cebu, while the national finals will be played in Manila from May 19 to 26.

Last year, Cebu represented by the University of the Visayas swept host-Bacolod team bannered by University of Negros Occidental-Recoletos, 65-56, during the Visayas Finals played at the WNU gym.

However, the Cebuanos bowed to Taytay, 83-66, in the finals held at the Smart-Araneta Coliseum.

The champion team of Taytay, represented by San Beda College, was starred by eventual MVP John Ryan Gumtang, Franz Abuda, son of ex-PBA player Freddie Abuda; Norrish Decapia and Mark Joper Diputado.

Metro Manila tryouts are scheduled April 1 until 13 in Valenzuela, Marikina, Caloocan, San Juan, Manila, Taguig, Rizal, Navotas, Muntinlupa, Cainta, Pasig, and Las Pinas. Other provincial tryouts will be held from April 2-14 in Cagayan de Oro, Laoag, Iloilo, Zamboanga, Cavite, Laguna, Pangasinan, Davao, Cebu, Pampanga and Batangas.

The Bacolod leg is supervised by SBP-Negros Occidental chairman Anthony Carlo Agustin as the tournament director alongside assistant tournament directors Chez Albao and Art Alegarbes.
