AVM Bernardo Slaughterhouse counsel Marvin Tañada said the City Government of Bacolod said Wednesday that they will accept the payment of the abattoir’s operator whom they consigned before the local court.

Tañada said City Legal Officer Rayfrando Diaz II manifested before the Municipal Trial Court in Cities Branch 4 presided by Judge Francisco Pando that they will now accept the deposited money.

The payment amounts to P60,990 which will cover the rental of AVM from March 16 to April 15, 2014.

"That is only for one month because that was the amount which was refused by the city unlike the previous rentals which were all received by the city," he added.

They will just make the necessary pleadings to allow them to withdraw the money from the court, Tañada said.

The refusal of the city has compelled AVM to petition in court the consignation by depositing the money to the court.

He also reported that the court will decide on the merits of the mandamus case.

"There is no point in opposing the proposal to withdraw the consigned amount from the court," he said.

Bacolod City Mayor Monico Puentevella has made public his opposition to grant AVM Bernardo its business permit and to receive its rental fees because he believed the slaughterhouse operator has violated the memorandum of agreement it signed with the city.

After AVM filed a mandamus petition, the firm’s business permit was released by the City Permits and Licensing Division earlier this week. (CNC)
