TRANSPORTS groups in Bacolod City and Negros Occidental said the fuel price disparity or the difference in prices of fuels in the province and other areas has lowered from P5 per liter to P2 per liter.

Nilo Frias, secretary general of Sentrong Samahan ng Tsuper at Operators-Negros (Sstone), said that several gasoline stations in the province have been offering P3 per liter discount for gasoline and P3.25 per liter for diesel fuel.

Diego Malacad, secretary general of United Negros Drivers and Operators Center (Undoc), said the fuel price disparity was addressed because of the presence of more gasoline stations in the province.

"As you can see, in almost every corner especially in Bacolod City, there is already a gasoline station," Malacad said.

In the past years, the local transport sector have been clamoring for lower fuel prices since gasoline stations in Bacolod and Negros Occidental sell fuel up to P8 per liter more than their counterparts in Cebu and Metro Manila.

Rep. Alfredo Benitez (3rd district, Negros Occidental) said the task force has already observed that the problem on disparity has been solved and that the price difference has been lowered to P2 per liter. However, the drivers associations still appealed to the government to continue monitoring the oil companies which they claimed to be manipulating the prices of fuels.

Effective Monday, oil companies imposed a price rollback ranging from P.80 to P1 per liter for gasoline and P.05 per liter for diesel and kerosene.

Major oil players operating in Bacolod and Negros Occidental include Chevron (Caltex), Petron Corp., and Pilipinas Shell Petroleum.

Small players such as Seaoil, Phoenix, Filoil, and Jetti also have gasoline stations in Bacolod and other areas in the province.
