A MAN was meted a 10-year imprisonment by a court in Bacolod City for molesting an eight-year-old boy.
Regional Trial Court (RTC) Branch 43 Judge Philadelfa Pagapong-Agraviador found the accused, Mokey Poblador, guilty beyond reasonable doubt for the crime through sexual assault and sentenced him to suffer the indeterminate penalty of six years to a maximum of 10 years in prison.
The court also ordered the accused to pay the victim P30,000 for civil indemnity, P30,000 for moral damages, and P20,000 for exemplary damages.
Court records showed that the rape incident happened on October 3, 2007 when the victim went to the house of the accused to practice boxing.
After the boxing practice, the accused brought the victim to a cemetery, which was across his house, and performed the sexual act on the minor.
The accused, in his defense, denied the allegations, as he claimed he did not do anything to the victim.
The court stressed that "the private offended party stated in clear, unequivocal, straightforward and honest matter how the accused sexually assaulted him."
The "private offended party didn't harbor any (bad) feeling or ill will against the accused prior to the filing of this case, nor was there any misunderstanding or fight between the accused and the family of the private offended party as confirmed by the accused himself," the court added. (TDE)
