THE National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) is awaiting the results of the polygraph or lie detector test conducted on 11 employees of Escalante City assigned at the Cashiering Division of the Treasurer's Office relative to the investigation on the P2-million robbery last July 13.

Arnel Pura, special investigator of NBI-Bacolod who is investigating the case, said the 11 employees include six disbursement officers, three watchmen, a janitress, and a janitor.

He said the NBI now has a clue on the identity of the suspect, who was often seen in the vicinity of the crime scene days before the robbery took place.

Of the P2 million, the P900,000 in cash remains unaccounted for, while the rest in form of checks were already returned to the City Hall.

The vault was destroyed by the suspects.

Escalante City Mayor Melecio Yap said that whoever is responsible for the crime, if indeed it was an inside job, will be held liable and appropriately charged.

The NBI investigation was conducted after the Provincial Board passed a resolution urging the agency to investigate the heist.
