TWG to release study on 1-island region bid-A A +A

NEGROS Occidental Vice Governor Eugenio Jose Lacson revealed on Monday that a Technical Working Group (TWG) will come up with a feasibility study on the proposed one-island region for Negros Occidental and Negros Oriental in two weeks.
The conduct of a feasibility study is being asked by Negros Oriental Gov. Roel Degamo so that he could see what development the one-island region could bring to their province.
Degamo had earlier cited a survey showing that majority of his constituents are not in favor of merging with Negros Occidental to create the Negros Island Region.
Lacson admitted that the conflict between the two Negros governors will have an effect on the one-island region plan.
“It seems that Governor Degamo is not interested, having admitted that the proposal is not a priority, even before the consultation,” Lacson said.
Asked if he remains optimistic that the one-island region plan will still push through even with the opposition from Degamo, Lacson said what he has is “guarded optimism.”
On the alleged rift between Degamo and Macias due to their differences in opinion on the one-island region proposal, Lacson said, “I prefer not to connect it with the proposal.”
Last week, Macias met with Negros Occidental Alfredo Marañon Jr. and Lacson in Talisay City to coordinate efforts on the proposed one-island region.
